CAMPUS LIFE

Research university town

Tsukuba, the University of Tsukuba is the core of Tsukuba Science City.

The nearest station, Tsukuba Station on the Tsukuba Express Line, is only 45 minutes away from Akihabara. Express buses also run from the campus to JR Tokyo Station.

The University of Tsukuba attracts students not only from Japan but also from all over the world, and a total of approximately 17,000 students, including about 2,500 international students, study in well-equipped educational and cutting-edge research facilities and live in student housing surrounded by lush greenery or in private student apartments in the vicinity of the university. Campus facilities are functionally connected by pedestrian and bicycle paths and the campus loop, making it very convenient to get around by bicycle. In addition, there is a circulating bus service (left and right turns) that frequently connects the campus to Tsukuba Station, which is used by many students.

One of the major attractions of Tsukuba Science City is the large number of research institutes centering on the University of Tsukuba, where students can seriously engage in world-leading research in a green environment. In addition, with the rapid development of Tsukuba City, students can enjoy a convenient, safe and secure student life.

Living environment

The student dormitories, where new students are given priority, can accommodate approximately 4,000 students, helping them to adjust to university life at an early stage and to discover their own personal challenges through conversations with friends and seniors who have different world and life perspectives.

The monthly fee for student housing is approximately 20,000 yen (excluding electricity). All rooms are private and equipped with a bed, desk, chair, and washstand. Each room is equipped with a WiFi environment. Each floor has a common kitchen and laundry room, and there are supermarkets, cafes, cafeterias, stores, barbershops, beauty salons, and recreation rooms near the dormitory. There are also many private student apartments in the vicinity of the university, and the cost of living is about half of that in the city center.

Extracurricular Activities

The University currently has approximately 250 student organizations approved for establishment, 137 of which are recognized as extracurricular activity groups (35 cultural clubs, 72 athletic clubs, and 30 artistic clubs) and are actively engaged in various activities. In addition to the Tsukuba area, the University of Tsukuba has several educational and research facilities, as well as training facilities at Lake Yamanaka in Yamanashi Prefecture and Tateyama in Chiba Prefecture, which can be used on various occasions.
